Bangalore: German technology major Robert Bosch said it would share global responsibility for developing power train electronics with the German Diesel and Gasoline Systems Electronic Controls (DGS-EC) business unit. The company announced investment of 300 crore towards infrastructure development in India and recruitment of 800 engineers in the next two years in the power train domain.

"RBEI will now take on world wide responsibility for additional customers, markets and projects in power train electronics development", the Group MD Vijay Ratnaparkhe said.

This will be the first global centre for DGS-EC outside of Germany, where Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions (RBEI) is headquartered.

Earlier, the development of power train electronics (used to drive cars) was led by the German unit. However, with the new announcement some of the projects would be led by the India unit, while some others by the German unit.

It would mean two global hubs for developing power train electronics, Ratnaparkhe said.
Till now RBEI had been an "extended workbench" for global customers and also a development centre for power train electronics for customers in BRIC countries.

Walter Grote, Senior Vice President and Business Unit Head, DGS-EC, said the thrust would be on IT components and the company was keen in leveraging the high skilled IT competency of Indian engineers to meet the changing demand.

RBEI is presently involved in software and hardware development of electronic controllers used for automotive power train electronics management.

From now RBEI engineers will directly liaise with customers across the world for their requirements, with complete responsibility for the entire product development lifecycle.

In all RBEI plans to recruit a total of 1,700 personnel this year to cater to its various needs, including power train electronics.

This will comprise conceptualisation, design and development of power train electronics hardware and software, validation, field support and manufacturing ramp up.
